A general overview of Byun Baekhyun would tell you that he's your typical Korean kid. A dad, mom, and one older brother made up his family and he grew up in the city of Bucheon in Gyeonggi province, South Korea. Being the baby of the household, he didn't have any real responsibilities. All of that fell onto his older brother who is 7 years older than he is. Not that Baekhyun wasn't responsible in his own way. He listened to his parents and did well in school. His mother could talk about how proud she was of both her sons equally. Despite the big age gap between him and his older brother, they get along well and even with his parents, he is their aegyo filled son.

In school, he got good grades and was able to get along with people easily. People generally like Baekhyun for his fun and kind personality. Though Baekhyun doesn't believe he is kind-hearted. He just is a very strong believer of justice. Being raised in a household that encouraged fairness, he was always told that the most important thing is to not make another person feel bad. He doesn't like it when people cry, usually acting silly to make his classmates laugh. If acting silly didn't work, he would sing. His skill for bring happiness to the people around him would eventually change to something that he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

From the fourth grade, Baekhyun knew exactly what he wanted to do. He wanted to become a singer just like the hyungs and noonas that he saw dancing and singing on TV. He thought it was the coolest thing and he loved music. His parents say that he's been dancing even from when he was a baby. His parents are supportive of his dreams to persue music and he's grateful that even despite their financial struggles, they sent him to music academies and even to an arts high school.

He has auditions of many companies but he continued to be rejected. So he decided to set his dreams aside and enroll into university. Deciding between Hongik University and Yonsei was a tough decision. Hongik was the number one arts school in Korea but Yonsei was a much more prestigious school. Ultimately he decided to attend Yonsei, mostly due to the fact that the tuition was cheaper than Hongik's.
